Millennium Images present: ‘A Point in Time’ by Billy Pepper
Billy Pepper’s work explores the genres of landscape and self-portraiture. Taken over a period of 3 years she has travelled to many coastal locations in the UK to photograph herself. Inspired by the natural light, responding to the unpredictable weather conditions and changeable shoreline she has created a series of work that expresses an underlying emotion.
Each photograph is composed precisely, a point in time mid scenario, thus drawing the viewer to consider the beginning and end of the narrative. Echoing film stills and landscape paintings they also capture a historical moment in time documenting the fragile British coastline.
Billy Pepper graduated from the University of Northumbria at Newcastle in 1997 with a BA (Hons) Contemporary Photographic Practice. She then continued to study for a further year and gained a post-graduate certificate in Computer Applications for Art and Design.
In 1998 she was awarded a Digital Artist Bursary at the Focal Point Gallery, Southend-On-Sea. During this time she completed a digital film projection on CD Rom, this was exhibited as part of expo’99 in Derby.
As part of her art practice Billy has spent several years working in schools, collaborating with children, taking photographs of children and researching childhood.
Billy has worked as a digital photographer for Sotheby’s, created work for a fine art publishers and undertaken photographic assignments for a Design Consultancy, commissions included portraits for Channel Four.
She has exhibited in several group shows throughout the UK and at Fresh Art, July 2003, London. Subsequently her work has been sold to several private collections.
