Rod Morris says "Historically, there has been a conflict of intentions for the Victorian entrepreneurs and explorers who assembled the first collections of wild and exotic animals. My mixed emotions mirror the joy of discovery but also sadness in capturing and collecting the species. As I witness my children's excitement and their riotous freedom running through the avenues of the animal cages and enclosures of London Zoo, my joy is tinged with guilt at seeing my children's freedom contrast with the animals’ captivity. As a photographer I found the need to create my own collections, however my camera left the subjects in their natural state and surroundings taking nothing but a shadow.
