The Appalachian Mountains, the Hollows of Virginia
Poppy de Villeneuve graduated from the London College of Printing, BA HONS in Photography in 2002.
She has had group and solo shows of her work both in London and in the USA and is a contributor to The Telegragh Magazine.
This is how she introduces her work:
"These photographs were taken in and around the hollows of the Appalachian Mountains in Virginia and West Virginia. From town to town the sense of the uncanny seeps into the surrounding landscape, the environment slowly revealing itself as things start to surface. Moments that have little definition become interesting, not searched for or thought out, but stumbled upon, events unforeseen.
There is not always a sufficient explanation for what you see or feel as the real mixes with the surreal and a narrative starts to develop. It can seem there will never be any answers. The spaces in-between become significant, so we must challenge how we read images and respond to them, allowing nostalgia room to permeate. Our own frame of reference can structure the meaning, which may differ for each of us."
