Congratulations Niall McDiarmid for his new exhibition “The Brits” at the Het Perron Cultural Centre in Ypres, Belgium. The exhibition runs till 5th Nov.
Portraits of strangers Niall meets during his walks. With an eye for fashion, architecture and playful color combinations, he exposes the soul of contemporary Great Britain. Sometimes exotic, often very recognizable.
In addition to his portraits, McDiarmid pays attention to the metropolitan context. Melancholic streetscapes of London at dawn. Train compartments with a lonely newspaper reader. Or the fine play of light on a table in a pub. Nothing escapes him. Still like an old master, he paints a still life with a half-empty cup of tea or a bottle of HP brown sauce. His work is in the collections of the Martin Parr Foundation, Museum of London, the National Portrait Gallery and the Sir Elton John Photographic Collection. He is a welcome guest at international photo festivals and regularly publishes art and photo books.
